We Connect to God in Worship

Woship

Connecting to God is the essence of worship. God wants us to know him. He sent his Savior into our world to make a connection to us. Our response to him in adoration completes the connection.

Worship of Many Styles Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength.” (Mark 12:30, Deut. 6:4, 5) Worship is loving God. God wants us to love him completely, with our whole being. We do best not to limit worship to a style of music. When Moses worshiped God at Sinai, he fell down and worshiped God (Exodus 34:7). Nothing is said about music when Moses worshiped. Instead, worship occurred because Moses thought nothing of his own life in acknowledging the presence of God. We do well to learn from this example of worship.

Worship styles speak to the interest of the worshiper, more than addressing God’s presence. We should recognize that God has given us music in all its styles. At First Baptist, Cuero, we use a variety of styles of music to express our praise of God. Every instrument and every style is a tool God has allowed us to use to celebrate God’s grace.

Preaching Our concept of worship includes two other important values. We believe that God has revealed himself to us in the Bible. For this reason, we keep the Bible as the foundation for worship. We believe people need to read and hear the message of the Bible. Believers are called to be disciples – followers of Jesus. Such discipleship is only possible as we encounter the Word and the Spirit in worship.

We also believe we must use modern means to communicate the gospel. Jesus used common parables to teach eternal truths to the people of his day. So, we too use modern instruments and video imagery to communicate worship to this generation.

We invite you to join us in the worship of God.
